ROCK HILL, SC — A 43-year-old woman was arrested after a man told police she was pulling her dog behind her SUV Thursday morning. Maria Maltos is charged with violating a dog ordinance by abuse.
Police say Bill Gaddy was driving a tractor trailer down Amber Lane around 8:40am when he saw a red SUV, driven by Maltos, pulling a dog by a leash. The leash was attached to the back of the SUV, Gaddy says, and the dog was running behind.
Gaddy told police the dog looked tired and ready to collapse, but Maltos would not stop.
After locating the SUV, police questioned Maltos about the incident. She admitted to driving around while the dog ran behind her, but says she did it because the dog likes to run and it was too cold for her outside. She told police she thought it would be okay if she pulled the dog with her car, so she could stay warm inside.
Police say the dog did not appear to be injured, but Animal Control was notified of the incident and may attempt to seize the dog pending further investigation.
