British Lord Tries To Quit After Running Late

A British lord tried his own Brexit after being embarrassingly late to a debate, but Prime Minister Theresa May says she won’t accept his resignation.
Lord Michael Bates has served in the House of Lords since 2008.
On Wednesday, he was almost half an hour late to debate a bill over Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union.
While many people would make an excuse, Lord Bates said he was sorry and offered up his own punishment.

“My sincere apologies to Baroness Lister for my discourtesy in not being in my place to answer her question on a very important matter,” Lord Bates said. “I’m thoroughly ashamed at not being in my place and therefore I shall be offering my resignation to the prime minister with immediate effect. I do apologize.”

Lord Bates then appeared to walk out of the chamber as other lords shouted “No” to his shocking announcement.
It now appears Bates will continue in his post.
