Iredell County, N.C. — A West Iredell High School student was arrested Thursday for making threats and having a knife on school property.
Iredell County authorities say Nicholas Carroll Anderson, 17, of Statesville has been charged with Felony Making a False Report Concerning Mass Violence on Educational Property and Misdemeanor Possession of a Weapon of Educational property. He was given a $50,000 secured bond.
School officials received information stating Anderson had made comments about committing a violent act earlier in the day.
Administrators notified the school’s resource officer who, along with an Iredell County Detective and school staff, began an investigation. Witnesses and Nicholas Anderson gave statements.
Anderson’s car was parked on campus and a fixed blade hunting knife with a five inch blade was found during a search.
“This is exactly the type of case which makes our school resource officers so important. Having
deputies on campus allows us to immediately step in, and conduct these criminal investigations
and make arrests based on evidence. I want to congratulate the school staff and leaders who assisted
in this investigation and thank them for our outstanding working relationship. I also want to say
thank you to the brave students who stepped up and made the school aware of this threat being
made. It is our top priority to remain proactive in order to eliminate any potential threats to
school safety. We will not condone any violence of threats of violence in the schools of Iredell
County,” said Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.
