Olympian Aly Raisman Shares Powerful Message In Sports Illustrated
Sports Illustrated wants this year’s Swimsuit Issue to be about more than just women in bikinis.
The annual issue features model Danielle Herrington on the cover.
She’s only the third black woman to nab that honor since Sports Illustrated started running the Swimsuit Issue back in 1964.
The magazine is also paying tribute to the #MeToo movement with a pictorial called ‘In Her Own Words.’
Olympic gold-medal gymnast Aly Raisman is one of the models who posed nude for the feature.
Raisman and around 100 sexual assault victims testified against former Team USA doctor Larry Nassar last month.
She chose to have phrases like: abuse is never okay, trust yourself and survivor written on her body for the photo shoot.
Raisman told the magazine: “Being a survivor is nothing to be ashamed.”
On Tuesday, Raisman shared a picture from Sports Illustrated on Instagram, with this powerful message:
“Women do not have to be modest to be respected– Live for you!
Everyone should feel comfortable expressing themselves however makes them happy.
Women can be intelligent, fierce, sexy, powerful, strong, advocate for change while wearing what makes them feel best.
The time where women are taught to be ashamed of their bodies is OVER.
The female body is beautiful and we should all be proud of who we are, inside and out.”
