CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three suspects have been charged in connection to several armed robberies, including one on the campus of UNC Charlotte early Thursday morning.
Lester McClendon, II, 21, and Jwuan Horton, 19, and Ulondis Edwards, 18, have all been charged with three counts of Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and three counts of Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
Shortly before 2am, UNCC police say two students were robbed at gunpoint behind the Student Union building near the loading dock area. The victims told UNCC Police the suspects fled the area in a dark grey Ford Focus.
While police searched for the suspects, another armed robbery was reported around 4:24am at a 7-Eleven on Brookshire Boulevard. Witnesses said two armed suspects entered the store and demanded money, then took off.
Police were able to capture McClendon and Horton a short time later after their vehicle, which matched the description given by UNCC Police, was spotted at a home on Garibaldi Avenue.
Police also identified Edwards as a suspect in the robberies. He was located and arrested at the Office of Probation and Parole on E. 4th Street.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected. UNC Charlotte officials say this is the first robbery to occur on campus in three years.
