Original Story:
CHARLOTTE, NC — The interim general manager for the Carolina Panthers, Marty Hurney has been placed on paid leave while officials investigate harassment claims made by his ex-wife.
The announcement was made Tuesday evening. The attorney for Jeanne Hurney told WCCB:
“Ms. Hurney dismissed her complaint. There is nothing for a court to hear. There is nothing in the complaint that she filed that would have a remote impact on Mr. Hurney’s ability to manage a football team. The Hurneys have trust issues. They are divorced. That doesn’t seem newsworthy.”
Officials say that any time allegations involving domestic violence are made however, the league must investigate. The NFL released a brief statement on the investigation saying, “The club advised the league of the matter in a timely fashion and it is being reviewed under the personal conduct policy.”
The NFL is currently investigating workplace misconduct allegations against the Panthers current owner and founder, Jerry Richardson. Richardson announced he would sell the Panthers in December after the allegations were made public.
