Charlotte Works To Improve Safety For CIAA Tournament

CHARLOTTE, NC — The City of Charlotte is taking steps to improve safety around the CIAA tournament, including consolidating the permitting process for outdoor events.

CMPD and other agencies will receive a list of all permitted events and who’s organizing them.

More than 100 shots were fired at 8th Street and Caldwel during last year’s tournament, and a food truck and several condos were damaged as a result.

The CIAA tournament begins one week from tonight and runs through March 3rd. The annual event is estimated to have a nearly $47 million economic impact on our area.
