Black History Month: Profiles in History – Bree Newsome

As we celebrate Black History Month, WCCB Charlotte is highlighting people who are making a mark in our community today

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – As we celebrate Black History Month, WCCB Charlotte is highlighting people who are making a mark in our community today.

Bree Newsome climbed her way into the spotlight and history in 2015, when she pulled down the Confederate flag at the South Carolina state capital in Columbia.

That bold climb inspired a national movement and debate over confederate monuments, and their place in public spaces.

Today, Bree is continuing her activism from various podiums, and from some cases, right from home.
