Wearing Saggy Pants Could Be Banned In South Carolina

South Carolina lawmakers want to make it illegal to wear saggy pants.
If a bipartisan bill becomes a law, you could be fined $25 dollars if you are caught in public with the waist of your pants hanging more than three inches below the top of the hips.
A second offense would result in a $50 fine and a third offense would result in a fine of $75, plus you could get 6 hours of community service.

Cities across the country have tried banning sagging pants for years, but often failed.
One South Carolina town did pass an ordinance in 2016.
In Timmonsville, you can be fined up to $600 if your pants hang too low.

While critics say this new bill specifically targets men and people of color, one of the bill’s co-sponsors says he seen “all creeds and races” with sagging pants.
