CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD has charged a Mecklenburg County Detention Officer with using a county issued credit card for personal expenses.
29-year-old Jason Kersey is charged with Embezzlement. CMPD says Kersey was issued a travel procurement card back in December to cover expenses related to an upcoming training event he was required to attend as a member of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The MCSO says they launched an internal investigation into Kersey after finding hundreds of dollars in unauthorized purchases, and eventually contacted the CMPD Financial Crimes Unit for assistance.
Kersey was arrested Friday.
Officials say Kersey has been with the MCSO since 2014, and was assigned to Jail Central. Sheriff Carmichael says Kersey has been terminated effective immediately following the arrest and charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
