The Latest:
The motorcade procession carrying the casket of the Reverend Billy Graham from Asheville to Charlotte is complete. His body will now lie in repose at the Graham Family Homestead, until it departs for Washington, D.C. to lie in honor at the U.S. Capitol this Wednesday and Thursday.
Original Story:
CHARLOTTE, NC — A procession will escort the Reverend Billy Graham’s body nearly 130 miles from Asheville to Charlotte this Saturday.
Here’s a look at the route and where people can pay their respects:
The motorcade bringing the Reverend Billy Graham back to Charlotte will leave The Cove in Asheville at 11:25 Saturday morning.
It will travel along I-40 to Hickory, down Highway 321 to Gastonia, and then along I-85 into Charlotte.
Once the procession gets to Charlotte it will travel down the Brookshire Freeway.
The best place to see the motorcade is along Tryon Street, Stonewall Street, or South Boulevard.
Sgt. Mike Baker with NCSHP says, “We’re asking motorists to use good judgement, good common sense. Setting up on the side of an interstate highway especially for a long period of time — we’re not encouraging that.”
The motorcade will then travel down Remount Road, back to Tryon Street, and then down Billy Graham Parkway to the Billy Graham Library and Graham family home place.
The arrival time is scheduled for 3pm.
