Driver Killed In West Charlotte Single-Car Crash; Teen Passenger In Critical Condition

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is dead and a teenager is in critical condition following a single-vehicle wreck in west Charlotte early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, February 25th, 2018, at 12:48 a.m., CMPD officers responded to a wreck in the 2900 block of Scott Futrell Drive at Westport Road.

The Driver, Antonio Lamonte Knox Sr., was pronounced dead at the scene.   The 14-year-old passenger was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Officers say Knox was operating a 2004 Cadillac SRX above the speed limit when he ran a stop sign at Westport Road and hit a concrete wall that separates Scott Futrell Drive from I-85.

Alcohol use and excessive speed are considered to be factors in the accident.
