CMPD Officers Demanding Pay Raises From The City Of Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC.–

Police officers demanding pay raises from the City of Charlotte. The Fraternal Order of Police says morale is at an all-time low because of pay, benefits and an officer shortage.

The Fraternal Order of Police says CMPD is 150 officers short. Several officers took the podium Monday night saying there just aren’t enough incentives for officers to stay with the department. Officers say this isn’t the first time they’ve brought this up to city council.

“We’re not feeling that the vacancies that we already have we do accomplish that better, simply put CMPD The city of Charlotte is just not as enticing as other cities in North Carolina and the nation,” says Mark Michalec with Charlotte Fraternal Order of Police.

CMPD is asking for a 15 % across the board increase, reinstatement of retiree health care and reduce health care premiums. They want a shift differential for working 2nd and 3 shift and time and a half for working weekends and on their days off.

Being down 150 officers puts a strain on resources when big events, like the CIAA and the All Star game come to town.

This is the second year in a row CMPD has come to council for these requests. Some newer council members, were vocal about their support.

“Need to seriously consider the budget ramifications and what we need to do to not be below average or average but exceptional as a relates to supporting our public servants,” says city councilman Tariq Bokhari.
