LANCASTER, SC — Deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Sunday afternoon during a get together on Terrace Road.
Officials say 54-year-old Eric Tucker was shot in front of his home around 4:46pm by his nephew, 27-year-old Tavares Brown. Deputies say several friends and family members were gathered at the home playing cards and drinking.
According to witnesses, Tucker got into an argument with several people, including Brown, before the shooting. Reports say Tucker grabbed a knife and approached Brown who had retrieved a .38 caliber revolver from his truck. Brown fired two shots, hitting Tucker once, according to investigators.
Tucker was taken to Springs Memorial Hospital where he later died. The knife and gun were recovered at the scene.
Brown has currently been charged with Carrying a Pistol.
“We are continuing to investigate this case but do not at this time have sufficient evidence to charge Mr. Brown for the shooting death of Mr. Tucker,” said Sheriff Barry Faile.
“If we uncover additional facts contrary to what we know now, we will reevaluate our position concerning charges for Mr. Brown. This was a tragic incident among relatives and friends at what should have been a happy gathering. Our condolences are extended to Mr. Tucker’s family.”
