SHELBY, N.C. — The State Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the human remains found in Cleveland County last Saturday as those of a woman missing since 2008.
Authorities say the remains have been positively identified as Mouy T. Tang, who was 46 when she went missing from the Unique Living Rest Home on September 3, 2008.
Rabbit hunters discovered the remains in a heavily wooded area off East Stagecoach Trail near Philadelphia Road about three tenths of a mile from the rest home.
There were no signs of trauma to the body or indications of foul play. Ms. Tang was said to have medical issues including diabetes.
The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the matter as an accidental death.
Sheriff Alan Norman said, “After all these years, we have held out hope that Ms. Tang would be reunited safely with her family. Unfortunately, that did not happen. We know that the discovery of her remains will allow her family some closure. Since the beginning of this case, the Tang family has done everything within their power to assist in the return of their loved one. After much hard work, the family was instrumental in the closure of Unique Living Rest Home, which had been the target of many community complaints over the years of its operation.
