Couch Chat: The Academy’s Diversity Efforts

It’s been two years since #OscarsSoWhite… but people are celebrating this year’s diverse lineup. Greta Gerwig is nominated for best director for Lady Bird. So far, there’s only been one woman to win that. And Jordan Peele could make history, and become the first black director to win the Academy Award.

It’s also the first time a woman is nominated for Best Cinematography for the movie, Mudbound. Life imitates art. The movie industry is a huge influence on not just American culture but the world’s. It has taken the Academy nearly 90 years to get here… and see some positive change. Are these changes enough?
