Deputies: Lincoln County Man Makes Fake Bomb Threat After Company Let Him Go

LINCOLNTON, NC — A Lincoln County man turned himself in Tuesday for allegedly making a fake bomb threat after losing his job back in February.

Tyrell Mack, 31, is charged with one count of making a false report concerning a destructive device. On February 27, deputies say Mack was terminated from his position at the Timken Company in Iron Station.

Mack told deputies he was angry about his job loss, so he made two phone calls shortly after 10am saying that a backpack had been placed in one of the restrooms and was going to explode in 10 minutes.

Officials say the company was evacuated following the threat. No injuries were reported and no device was ever found.

Investigators traced the call to a cell phone belonging to Mack’s girlfriend. On Monday, deputies say Mack spoke with detectives and explained his frustrations. On Tuesday, he turned himself in.
