Winthrop University To Dedicate Softball Hitting Facility After Former Player Killed In Car Crash

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Winthrop University and the Winthrop Softball team are officially dedicating the team’s hitting facility after Janiva Willis.

Willis, a former softball player and member of the Winthrop Hall Of Fame, was tragically killed in a car accident in 2016 while biking across the country to raise money for youth mentoring. Willis’ close friend, Jeffrey Turner, was also killed in the crash.

The official dedication of the Janiva Willis Memorial Hitting Facility at Terry Field at Winthrop University’s softball complex will be held at 12:30pm on March 17th.

The Eagles will play against Charleston Southern at 1pm, following the dedication.  Admission is free and open to the public.
