CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority released documents that show how much it would cost the City of Charlotte to host the 2020 Republican National Convention.
The document says the price, which is estimated between $68M-$70M, is based on the cost of the RNC that was held in Cleveland, Ohio in 2016. The Democratic National Convention was in Charlotte in 2012. The City of Charlotte saw an economic impact of more than $164M in 2012. The city is estimated to see more than $200M if the RNC comes to Charlotte in 2020.
Representatives from the RNC visited Charlotte last week. There is no timeline on when a decision will be made about the location of the 2020 convention.
