Couch Chat: More Apartments Coming To Charlotte

Something a lot of locals hate, the apartment boom! And it isn’t slowing down anytime soon. A report says, we’ll need thousands of more apartments in the next 12 years and that the Charlotte Region needs 72 thousand more by then.

The three biggest reasons are, people are having to wait longer to buy houses, older people are choosing to rent instead of buy and immigration. This comes as Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles says, affordable housing is one of her top priorities. The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute says, nearly 40 thousand families in Mecklenburg County spend more than half of their income on rent.

It says, thousands of families are kicked out of their homes each year, as the number of renters grow and rents rise.
