CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new report is slamming Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as the most segregated in the state.
The Justice Center’s education and law project says de-segregating the state’s public schools is still unfinished, despite segregation ending in 1954.
To fix the problem, the report says CMS would need to reassign 55% of its students. The report also suggests income is the big reason for segregation increasing within the district.
Last month, CMS released its Breaking the Link report to address the impact race and poverty play in schools. The district is asking for community input on a strategic plan.
