Mooresville Vape Store Clerk Arrested For Selling Synthetic Cannabinoid Product Used In Teen’s Overdose

MOORESVILLE, NC — A store clerk at Tobacco & Vapor on North Main Street has been charged with possessing and selling a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance.

Police arrested 31-year-old Rashad Naji Mohsen Al Hubaishi after finding nine vials of a synthetic cannabinoid being sold as “Black Diamond” CBD oil hidden throughout the store, along with over $6,000 cash. Officers executed a search warrant on the business on March 9th in connection to a teen’s overdose back in February.

The same vape product seized was purchased from the store by a Mooresville High School student and ultimately ended in an overdose, according to police.

The chemical name for the substance is 5-Fluoro ADB and FUB-AMB, both of which officials say are Schedule 1 Controlled Substances. According to a released, the World Health Organization has documented the following side effects in people using 5-Fluoro ADB:

  • rapid loss of consciousness/coma
  • cardiovascular effects such as hypertension, chest pain, myocardial infarction and stroke
  • seizures and convulsions
  • vomiting, delirium, agitation and psychosis
  • aggressive and violent behavior
  • sudden death has also been reported

Police say the clerk is a citizen of Yemen. He is charged with Possessing and Selling a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance.
