Should School Resource Officers Be Federally Funded?

A School Resource Officer is being called a hero this morning after his quick response to a high school shooting in Maryland. Police say, the gunman shot and hurt two people yesterday afternoon in the school hallway. It took the officer less than a minute to get the gunman and take him down. It’s not yet clear, whether the shooter was killed by the officer or if he shot himself.

CMS Resource Officers are trained through CMPD. Critics say, they don’t have enough training when it comes to interacting with the students. The officers are not federally regulated because they’re not federally funded. Should this change and should school resource officers be federally funded?
