Troopers: Ambulance Driver At Fault In Deadly Chester County Accident

GREAT FALLS, SC — Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say the ambulance driver was at fault in today’s deadly accident in Chester County.

The accident happened around 1:30pm on SC 97 at Power Line Drive. Troopers say Phillip Jackson II, 42, of Rock Hill was driving a Dodge Ambulance when he ran off the right side of the road, over corrected, and crashed into a 2003 Malibu in the oncoming lane.

The driver of the Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say there were three passengers in the car, including an adult front passenger and two children in the back seat.

The adult was treated for non-life threatening injuries, but officials say the children were airlifted to Richland Memorial in Columbia. All of them were wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred.

Jackson and his passenger, 45-year-old Timothy Rogers, of Chester, were both injured and taken to Chester Hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
