IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Two people died in a collision involving a tractor-trailer in Iredell County late Thursday night.
Authorities say at about 11 p.m. onΒ Thursday, March 29, an R+L Carriers tractor-trailer was traveling east on Oak Ridge Farm Highway near Wiggins Road, when the driver entered the westbound lane to avoid a stopped vehicle waiting to make a left turn.
The tractor-trailer collided with a Chevrolet truck near the intersection. Β The Chevrolet spun around and caught fire on the side of Wiggins Road. Β The tractor-trailer ran off the road into a field following the collision.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Mark Anthony Eckles, 47, and the passenger, Brian Kevin Gray, 47, both of Statesville, died at the scene as a result of the accident.
The accident is still under investigation and more information will be released as it develops.
