WINGATE, NC — A man was killed Thursday afternoon when his lawnmower turned over on him after sliding down a ravine and pinning him underneath.
Deputies say 75-year-old Charles Wayne Arant was riding a Hustler zero turn mower when he slid down the roughly six foot deep ravine while mowing near the end of a grass airstrip at Mid State Aviation on Austin Chaney Road.
Arant was found pinned under the mower by another man cutting grass in the same area. Despite rescue efforts, officials say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Arant’s death was a “tragic accident.”
