Victim Of Violent Assault, Caught on Video, On CATS Bus Speaks Out

CHARLOTTE, NC.– WCCB is hearing from the victim about what led up to the assault that broke her jaw. WCCB also found out what CATS drivers are trained to do in this type of situation.

We have to warn you: the video is disturbing.

The Video of 24-year-old Jayla Ware being brutally beaten over the weekend on a CATS Bus– going viral.

Roy Hedman is the man accused of beating Jayla. He’s charged with aggravated assault. Through a broken jaw, Jayla tells WCCB she’s known Hedman for years.

“I know him. We were in a relationship for two and a half years,” Ware says.

Jayla says she was with Hedman Saturday night, eating and drinking at the Epicentre. Jayla says she thinks someone slipped something in her drink that night – and she and Hedman were arguing about that on the bus. Jayla says doctors confirmed her suspicion.

“They said we also found two doses of PCP in you system. That’s why I never remembered nothing from the bus.”

The cell phone video shows Ware walk over to Hedman and touches his face. Hedman jumps up and starts punching Jayla and then stomps on her head repeatedly.

We asked CATS how drivers are trained to handle these situations, and were told they are required to pull the bus over to a safe stopping point and call dispatch with the details. Dispatch then calls police.

Jayla says she’s just trying to recover.
