Council Member’s Facebook Post Kicks Off Social Media Firestorm

A social media firestorm for Charlotte City Council member Lawana Mayfield after she posted a 9/11 conspiracy theory.

Council member Lawana Mayfield’s Facebook post is now getting national news coverage and people from across the country are leaving critical comments on her page.
Mayfield posted an article calling the twin towers attack a controlled demolition, and wrote: “I am still waiting for someone to produce pieces of the alleged plane that opened the doors for us citizens to loose (sic) all privacy rights (from the conspiracy theorist in me)”

After lots of people started leaving comments, Mayfield updated her post, writing: “This was not shared to cause controversy yet it has. Freedom of speech allows you to share your thoughts and many have done that below.”
