The Town Of Matthews Is Pushing To Open Its Own Charter Schools
MATTHEWS, NC — Some town leaders are frustrated with CMS and want more local control, so now the town of Matthews is pushing to be able to open its own charter schools.
School board members voiced their opposition during a joint meeting with town commissioners Tuesday night. They argue charter schools take money away from the district.
Commissioners however, want the board to listen to their concerns about overcrowding and student assignment.
Right now the town can’t legally open charter schools, but state representative Bill Brawley has introduced a bill to change that.
