Anonymous Tip Leads To Discovery Of 3000 Grams Of Methamphetamine In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives working on an anonymous tip have arrested a man charged with trafficking nearly 3000 grams of methamphetamine and various amounts of other narcotics in Charlotte.

On April 12, 2018 the CMPD received an anonymous tip of suspected narcotic sales in the 9400 block of South Tryon Street.

As a result of this tip, detectives with the Vice and Narcotics Unit of the Special Investigations Bureau conducted  surveillance, which led to a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Refugio Najir Gutierrez Espinoza.

Espinoza was arrested on traffic-related charges and transported to the Steele Creek team office to be interviewed.

After obtaining a search warrant for the location of the tip, a further investigation resulted in the discovery of approximately 1580 grams of marijuana, 370 grams of THC oil, 2515 grams of synthetic marijuana, 2950 grams of methamphetamine, 7 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 25 units of prescription medication, body armor, night vision goggles, and firearms.

Refugio Najir Gutierrez Espinoza was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Trafficking Synthetic Marijuana, Trafficking Methamphetamine, and Trafficking Heroin.

The case is still under investigation.
