City Council Member LaWana Mayfield Refuses to Resign Amid Social Media Firestorm
CHARLOTTE, NC – LaWana Mayfield is talking to WCCB Charlotte as calls for her resignation grow.
Wednesday night, she would only laugh when asked if she planned to resign.
A social media firestorm erupted after she posted an article calling the September 11th attack a controlled demolition and wrote, “I am still waiting for someone to produce pieces of the alleged plane that opened the doors for US Citizens to loose all privacy rights (from the conspiracy theorist in me).”
She later updated her post writing, “This was NOT shared to cause controversy yet it has. Freedom of speech allows you to share your thoughts and many have done that below.”
West Charlotte resident Darrell Lucas started a Change.org petition calling for Mayfield’s resignation.
“What this woman did has brought shame and disgrace upon our city and our state,” Lucas says.
