Original Story

STATESVILLE, NC — A man wanted for robbing a convenience store with a Red Ryder B.B. gun in February is finally in custody. Deputies have been looking for Quintin Abernethy, 22, since warrants were issued on him back in March.

Abernethy is accused of robbing the Little Market Basket on the night of Sunday, February 10th. Officials say he entered the store, demanded  money, took off out the front door, and ran towards the back.

A witness told deputies the suspect dropped his weapon, later identified as a Red Ryder B.B. gun, in the roadway just before getting into the passenger seat and driving away. On March 14th, investigators identified Abernethy as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.

Abernethy eluded authorities for over a month as investigators say information gathered from friends and family members put him in possibly the Raleigh or Hickory areas.

On Thursday, Abernethy was finally caught when deputies responded to a domestic dispute call in the parking lot of the Iredell County Library located right across from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Abernethy is currently charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, but investigators say evidence recovered from his vehicle may link him to several other robbery cases throughout Statesville and other counties. Officials say additional charges are expected.
