HICKORY, NC — A former sergeant with the Hickory Police Department was indicted Monday on excessive force and obstructing justice charges related to a 2013 incident.
According to the indictment, Robert George, 45, allegedly assaulted a woman on November 11, 2013 by slamming her face-first to the ground and then wrote a false police report about the incident the next day to cover it up. Officials say the victim sustained several injuries as a result of the alleged assault.
George was arraigned on the charges in federal court Monday. The case is being investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by the DOJ and their Civil Rights division.
