CMS Says HB514 Isn’t Good For Students

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools officials say a charter school bill is not good for students.

The school board talked about House Bill 514 Tuesday night. It would let Matthews and Mint Hill run their own charter schools, but CMS says the bill offers no clear path for higher education, would raise taxes, increase segregation and force students out of high performing schools.

School Board Member, Elyse Dashew says, “We need to shine a light on segregation and what causes it and what it does to us as a community. We must not shy from this conversation. We must sweep not it under the rug.”
