Panthers’ Greg Olsen Signs Two-Year Extension

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tight end Greg Olsen has signed a two-year contract extension with the Carolina Panthers to remain with the team through the 2020 season.

Olsen was entering the final year of a three-year extension he signed in 2015.

“I’ve made it clear over the past year that I want to keep playing and I want to play here,” Olsen said Thursday. “Both sides were very fair and worked on it in a timely manner. I feel really good about what we were able to get done both for ourselves and the team.”

The former Miam Hurricane is the only tight end in NFL history to post three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons and currently owns the top five single-season franchise bests for tight end receiving yards.

Olsen set a Panthers tight end record with 1,104 receiving yards in 2015, and has been selected to three Pro Bowl teams.  He is third in Panthers history in receiving yards with 5,575 and receptions with 445.

Among NFL tight ends, Olsen ranks sixth in career receptions with 639, seventh in receiving yards with 7,556 and is tied for 10th in receiving touchdowns with 53.

“Obviously, I’m 33, but I’ve played well in my 30s,” Olsen said. “Some of my best football has been since I turned 30. So I feel like I can play for a long time, and not only play, but play well.”
