Pilot Walks Away After Helicopter Crashes In Lincoln County

IRON STATION, N.C. — Emergency officials say a single passenger helicopter has crashed in Iron Station.

Officials say the crashed happened around 10:30am near Leepers Street and Every Drive. The pilot reportedly was able to walk away from the accident.

Officials say the man was trying to take off from his yard but crashed shortly after getting off the ground. He only had minor injuries.

The helicopter reportedly burst into flames and is a total loss. Damage estimates are around $34,000. The man just purchased the helicopter a little over a week ago.

There is no word on what caused the helicopter to crash. No other details are available at this time.
