Gigi Hadid Apologizes After Vogue Italia Blackface Backlash
Gigi Hadid is apologizing having noticeably darker skin on the cover of Vogue Italia.
The supermodel isn’t taking the blame for the photos, but she still says sorry.
The backlash began after the magazine shared a preview of its May issue, which hits stands Friday.
Some called it blatant blackface.
Thursday, Hadid tweeted a picture that she says was taken right after the photo shoot.
She says you can see the level of bronzer the magazine used on her skin.
Hadid says the photographer who Vogue Italia hired is known for using bronzer and photoshop, but admitted she thinks the coloring concerns are valid.
She also called the cover poorly executed, but explained she had little creative control in this situation.
This isn’t the first time Vogue Italia and Gigi Hadid were accused of using black face on a magazine cover.
The November 2015 cover featured Hadid sporting a noticeably darker skin tone while wearing an afro wig.
Hadid didn’t comment on the situation then.
