Hundreds Pay Their Respects to UNC Charlotte Student Who Was Killed After Falling Out Of Party Bus
CHARLOTTE, NC.– We’ve learned the bus involved in the death of a UNC Charlotte student was uninsured and had fake license plates. Polly Rogers was killed after she fell out the window of the party bus and was then struck by two cars. Monday, she was laid to rest.
Hundreds of people came to St. John’s Episcopal Church to pay their respects to Polly. It was an emotional service at the church she grew up going to. Police say the owner of the bus turned it over to state investigators for inspection. Friends and family spoke at the funeral.
“And she really was a beautiful soul. And there’s a lot of things I could say about Polly and why I love her, but I’m going to tell you some of the reasons she loved the world.”
20-year-old Polly Rogers and some of her Zeta Sorority sisters left the Kappa Sigma Fraternity house off Mallard Creek Church Road and got on a Charlotte Party Charter Bus heading to Uptown. Police say the Myers Park graduate fell out of an emergency window on North Tryon Street and was then hit by two cars.
Monday, the owner of the bus, Victor Rabb, was issued citations after police say the bus was uninsured and was displaying a fictitious license plate. WCCB reached out to Rabb’s attorney who sent this statement:
Charlotte Party Charters and Mr. Rabb extend their sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Rogers. Subsequent to this tragic accident, the North Carolina Department of Transportation inspected the bus and found The emergency windows to be in proper working order. Charlotte Party Charters has operated for over 13 years and has an excellent safety record.
