9th Annual Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Foundation Honors The Men And Women In Blue

CHARLOTTE, NC — Everyone was celebrating the men and women in blue Thursday at the 9th Annual Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Foundation luncheon.

A huge crowd came out to the Charlotte Convention Center in Uptown today. The foundation and this luncheon helps raise funds to provide resources and support for CMPD.

Captain Sully Sullenberger was the keynote speaker at the event. He spoke about the importance of teamwork and preparation for our first responders.

“A lot of them are first responders. And they, like military members, and others, are the tiny fraction of our society who are doing all the heavy lifting for us. And doing for us what we either cannot, or will not do for ourselves,” said Sullenberger.

The Police Foundation has helped CMPD supplement and enhance resources by funding the purchase of half a million dollars worth of body cameras.

Will Whitley, the Police Foundation Chairman says, “These are things that are not currently in the city budget. So we’re investing in ways to help the chief when the funds aren’t there from the city. It might be a test case, a trial, but it’s worked well.”

The Police Foundation raised more than one million dollars this year to support CMPD.
