Good News, We May See Electric Scooters Back In Charlotte Sooner Than You Think.

CHARLOTTE, NC.– Charlotte City Leaders say Lime electric scooters have got to go! They can confiscate them on the sidewalks by Saturday. Good news, we may see electric scooters back in Charlotte sooner than you think.

City officials say Lime jumped the gun. They didn’t have approval to be in the city yet because of safety concerns for people renting the scooters.

“It’s convenient, it’s good for the environment, its fun. But there are some concerns we have,” says Charlotte City Council member Tariq Bokhari.

Lime is fighting back. They sent out an email to users urging them to reach out to City Officials.

“They said the city doesn’t want us here. Which wasn’t the case at all,” says Bokhari.

While the city figures out safety guidelines for the scooters, they’re already talking to other companies like Bird and Spin about bringing electric scooters to Charlotte. City Council members say those companies are doing it through proper channels. Council member Bokhari says the goal is to have them here in about two weeks.

“We actually have them rideable on the streets on the 21st, that might be a stretch goal, but that’s the goal.”

WCCB reached out to Lime, they say they’re evaluating the next steps and gathering more information.
