Driver Charged After Accident Leaves Woman, Child Dead In Northeast Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD has charged one of the drivers involved in this morning accident that left a mother and child dead.
22-year-old Montressa Gray has been charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle, Expired Registration, and an unsafe movement.
The four vehicle accident happened around 7:37am on Eastway Drive near Curtiswood Drive. Medic says one of the drivers, Alicia McFarland, 27, was pronounced dead on the scene, and her 3-year-old child died on the way to the hospital.
According to investigators, McFarland was seat belted when the accident occurred and the child seat was installed properly. The child was not however, buckled into the seat.
Police say everyone involved in the accident was seat belted, and everyone except Gray was transported with minor injuries. Officials say Gray was not injured and remained on scene.
According to reports, Gray was driving her 2013 Honda Civic in the right lane of Eastway Drive and sideswiped a 2006 Ford while merging into the left lane after crossing the intersection at Curtiswood Drive. The Ford was forced into oncoming traffic and hit McFarland’s 2017 Hyundai Accent head on.
Police say immediately after the head on collision, McFarland’s vehicle was hit in the right rear side by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado then ran off the right side of the road and into a utility pole.
