One Dead After Suspects Shoot Into Car With Three People Inside In East Charlotte, Victim Identified
CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that led to a brief standoff in east Charlotte on Saturday.
On May 12th, 2018 at 12:34 p.m., CMPD officers responded to a shooting in the 4600 block of Perth Court.
Police say suspects shot into a vehicle with three occupants striking two people including the driver.
The driver, 19-year-old Gavino Miguel Romero, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
After being shot, police say Romero lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a porch. No injuries were reported from the crash.
An investigation determined that possible armed suspects were at a location on Lanecrest Drive. SWAT Team members and negotiators responded to Lanecrest Drive and attempted to make contact with the suspects.
The suspects surrendered after a brief standoff and were taken to police headquarters for interviews.
The case is still under investigation and more information will be released as it develops.
