Gunman Accused Of Killing A York County Deputy, Wounding 3 Others Pleads Guilty

Christian McCall, the man accused of shooting four officers, killing one in York County has pleaded guilty in court.

McCall was facing one count of Murder, three counts of Attempted Murder, four counts of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, and one count of 1st Degree Domestic Violence.

He was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.  McCall was also injured in the shootout but has since recovered from his injuries.

Christian McCall was denied bond during a hearing Friday night in York County. Following the hearing, officials say McCall was transferred from the York County Detention Center to a facility in Spartanburg County.

Officials with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) say McCall was transferred into York County custody earlier today. McCall was being held in Mecklenburg County following his release from a Charlotte area hospital where he was taken for treatment after the January shootout.

Soon after his arrival back in South Carolina, warrants were served on McCall charging him with one count of Murder, three counts of Attempted Murder, four counts of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, and one count of 1st Degree Domestic Violence.

The case is still being investigated by SLED and the York County Sheriff’s Office.

YORK, SC.–  The accused gunman in a deadly officer-involved shooting in York County is in police custody. Christian McCall was in the hospital for two months and was released today.

47-year-old Christian McCall is accused of shooting multiple York County Deputies and a York County Police Officer back in January. Sheriff’s Detective Mike Doty died in the shooting. McCall’s family is speaking out — as a community continues to mourn.

McCall Family Statement released by Christian McCall’s attorney, Montrio Belton:

“The family is shocked, saddened, and devastated by the events of January 16, 2018. Our hearts have ached for Officers  Mike Doty, Randy Clinton, Buddy Brown,  and Kyle Cummings and their families.

The Christian McCall we know is a loving Christian, husband of over 20 years, father of two great kids, son, and brother.

Chris had a successful career in the banking industry–where he was well-liked by his co-workers. He is also a proud veteran of the US Army.

So, this tragedy, as we know it, was something uncharacteristic of Chris’ past and seemingly promising future.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CMC and Officers with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for their high level of professionalism and compassion during this difficult situation.

We continue to pray for the recovery of all those impacted.”

McCall is charged with murder, three counts of attempted murder, four counts of using a weapon during a violent crime, and first-degree domestic violence. McCall’s extradition hearing will be Friday at 1:30 pm. at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.

If McCall waives extradition, there will be a bond hearing Friday night in South Carolina.
