David Tepper Could Remain The Sole Owner Of The Carolina Panthers

ATLANTA, GA — New Panthers owner David Tepper is buying the team for $2.2 billion dollars in cash. Right now, he is set to be the only owner of the team.

Jerry Richardson controlled 48% of the team with a group of minority partners, including some local names filling out the ownership group.

David Tepper was asked about the possibility of adding minority ownership Tuesday, and says that while he can see advantages to having local minority owners in Charlotte, it could also impede some plans he might have for the future.

“I’m trying to determine the development I want to have in the community development areas of the community,” says Tepper. “It might make it more difficult to have minority partners, you know, if you want to do, for instance, an MLS team, or something like that, which might make some sense if you are in fact in Charlotte, or you do other things.”

David Tepper is supposedly a big soccer fan, so maybe dropping a potential MLS team for Charlotte shouldn’t be a surprise.

You just get the feeling that Tepper is really excited to have the opporunity, and that he’s ready to learn as much about the Panthers and the Queen City as he can.
