Police Say Suspects Break-in 16 Local Businesses
MECKLENBURG COUNTY– Surveillance video shows several suspects smashing into a local business. Police say those same suspects hit 15 other businesses Sunday night into early Monday morning. The break-ins happened in a matter of hours across Mecklenburg and Union County.
Police say they’re looking for four suspects. All 16 break-ins have the same M-O. The perps shattered the door glass of each business.
Surveillance video shows a silver Chevy Impala drive up to Jolly Rolls on Monroe Road. You see two suspects get out of the car and shatter the glass door. They grab the cash register and slam it to the ground several times. Jack Chernewych has worked at Jolly Rolls only a month and says he’s shocked.
“I think it’s very scary. We closed that night actually so I was just thinking about what if they came in while we were working,” employee of Jolly Rolls Jack Chernewych.
Police say Jolly Rolls and 15 other business across Union and Mecklenburg counties were hit by the suspects. All within a few hours of each other.
“With 16 break-ins across those three jurisdictions basically it’s a lot of information to gather to make sure we have the right suspect information to put it out,” says Matthews Police Department Public Information Officer Tim Aycock.
At the Sycamore Commons shopping center in Matthews, police say the suspects broke into several stores starting at a Starbucks and made their way down to five others.
“Your typical smash and grab where they were breaking in the front glass doors to gain entry that way,” says Officer Aycock.
Police say the suspects then broke into four other businesses in Union County around 1:30am on Monday. China II and Jacks Pzza still have their doors boarded up.
Police say this is likely not the first time the suspects have done something like this.
No arrests have been made. Union County Sheriff’s office told WCCB they’re looking for four suspects.
