People Support 8-Year-Old After Family Tragedy
GASTON COUNTY, NC — Close to a thousand people packed a local little league game tonight. People showed up to cheer on an 8-year-old boy in need of a lot of TLC this week.
The boy, Caleb Self, hit a home run tonight in front of the packed stands in Stanley.
Caleb’s mom, Amanda Self, an emergency room nurse, was killed Sunday. His father Josh is in the hospital.
Caleb’s grandfather is accused driving his Jeep into the Surf and Turf Lodge in Bessemer City on Sunday, killing some family members and injuring others.
People who came to cheer Caleb on say they hope this can give him something to smile about.
Gaston County resident, Debbie Lewis says, “Gaston County has been through a terrible tragedy. But this event here shows how this community comes together, pulls together, and supports everything and everybody during this trying time. And we will continue to do this as long as we can.”
