Heavy Rains Cause Major Damage Throughout Mountain Areas
BURKE COUNTY — WCCB was tracking the latest flooding aftermath Wednesday. Some in the western counties of North Carolina were shocked by what the heavy rain did to their homes.
Lilly Cody was picking up the pieces after flood waters washed away her front year in Old Fort.
“Just kind of cleaning up there’s a bunch of my brothers toys are blocked in the trees,” says Cody.
A bridge yards away from her house –collapsing. It got so bad, Lilly and her family had to leave their house.
“We were just waiting it out and I looked out and it was just like the whole yard is flooded and I’m like, okay we’re just going to wait it out. Then I looked again and she’s pouring in the road and were like we got to go.”
Not too far in Burke County, Stacey Urbina looks at what’s left of her family church.
“We were just standing there and then all the sudden the floor started falling into the water,” says Urbina.
In Morganton, power lines down and blocked roads. Even a car washed off the road into a water filled ditch.
David Morrison trying to drive down Brown Mountain Beach Road in Caldwell County. They drove so slow, fearing they may get stuck.
“It’s very muddy and places and I was actually surprised to see it in the shape,” says Morrison.
