‘Highly Experienced’ Skydiver Who Died After Parachute Malfunction Identified

The veteran skydiver who died when her parachute malfunctioned at SkyDive Carolina has been identified.

According to the Chester County Coroner, Carolyn Clay, 69, of Williamsburg Virginia died from blunt force trauma suffered during the incident.

CHESTER, SC — A 69-year-old skydiver died Thursday afternoon after their main parachute malfunctioned during a jump.

Emergency officials tell WCCB that a call for a “hard landing” came in around 3:30pm at SkyDive Carolina. The coroner was dispatched shortly after.

The highly experienced skydiver was making a jump during the annual ‘CarolinaFest’ skydiving event when officials say the main parachute malfunctioned after being safely deployed. Officials say the diver had made more than 15,000 skydives prior to today’s incident.

The cause and details of the malfunction are currently under investigation. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
