Train Derails In Lancaster County
LANCASTER, SC — Officials are investigating after a train traveling from Kershaw to Chester derailed Monday afternoon.
Darren Player with Lancaster County Emergency Management says the train was carrying soybean meal from the ADM plant in Kershaw to Chester when seven cars derailed at Peach Farm Road near Meeting Street. The soybean meal was to be added to animal feed and doesn’t pose any environmental risk.
Officials say the train was traveling on the L&C Railway, which is a local and privately owned rail line. L&C will be responsible for track repair and clean up.
There is no estimate on how long clean up and repairs will take. The railway does run along the back of a neighborhood, but officials say traffic is not being impacted and no injuries were reported.
