Miss America To Scrap Its Swimsuit Competition

Miss America is getting a major #MeToo makeover.
After 97 years, organizers are working to make the Miss America more inclusive.
They’re scrapping the swimsuit portion entirely.
In its place, the judges will discuss each contestant’s achievements and goals in life.
The evening gown competition is getting revamped too and now contestants will be able to wear “whatever they choose.”
New chairwoman and former Miss America Gretchen Carlson says the changes will open the pageant to women of all shapes and sizes.
“We’ve heard interest a lot of young women that way we want to be part of your program but don’t want to be out in a swimsuit and high heels. you don’t have to do it anymore,” Carlson said. “We are no longer a pageant. We are a competition. We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance.”
The talent portion of the competition will remain the same.
